Mangroves Conservation

Srushtidnyan with the support of ICICI Bank Ltd. Has successfully implemented mangroves conservation project in Sindhudurg District of Konkan Region in Maharashtra. This project was first in itself on the coast of Konkan with the multi-stakeholder’s partnership. The Mangroves Cell of State Forest Department provided with a degraded coastal land in the villages namely Tambaldeg, and Rameshwar in Devgad Taluka. A local fisher folk community Self-Help Group (SHG) named Bhairavnath SHG was given a training of mangroves nursery and plantation techniques. The college students from Kelkar College, Devgad were actively involved in plantation and awareness activities on mangroves. The other stakeholders like BNHS, UNDEP, Mangroves Foundation were also brought into consultation support during the project period between 2018-2022. It was very inspiring to notice the local people’s involvement in the most uncertain time on the earth i.e. COVID-19 pandemic by having safety measures. Around 17 acres of coastal land was brought under the mangroves plantation by planting 30,000 mangroves.
