Srushtidnyan is actively working for the protection of this flagship species of bird in Konkan region. Some of the nesting sites and tree cavities are ensured with maximum vigilance by introducing modern technology like CCTV and local people’s involvement. School children are made part of “Friends of Hornbill Nature Club”. Wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to adopt the active nest sites. The droppings from the active nests are collected, studied and used in nursery to raise saplings of hornbill food plants. It is also planned to mark the geographical range of total hornbill population found in the project area in Sangmeshwar Taluka of Ratnagiri District. Srushtidnyan is strengthening the local NGO, Sahyadri Sankalp Society to ensure long term sustainability of this work.
